A great homemade gift for any season.

Ingredients

• 1 cup packed brown sugar
• 1/2 cup white sugar
• 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
• 2 cups all purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon baking soda

Preparation for Cookie Gift Jar

Mix the salt and baking soda with the flour. Pour into a 1 quart wide mouth jar. Add the chocolate chips, white sugar and brown sugar in layers. Seal with jar lid.

Decoration

Use scissors to cut a 9 inch-diameter circle from the fabric of your choice (color coordinate with the holiday of reason for giving the gift. Christmas fabric for Christmas gifts etc.). Place over lid, and secure with rubber band. Tie on a raffia or ribbon bow to cover rubber band.

Decorate and hand write, or print up cards with the following directions, attach to the ribbon on the jar:

Chocolate Chip Cookies

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
2. In a large bowl, cream 1 cup of unsalted butter or margarine until light and fluffy. Beat in 1 egg and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Mix in cookie mix. Drop teaspoonfuls of dough, spaced well apart, onto a greased cookie sheet.
3. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in preheated oven, or until lightly browned. Cool on wire racks.
